Show Notes

Have you ever noticed that when you diet, the weight later comes back?   The fat comes back, valuable muscle does not.  Kat James discusses  the secret of effortless weight loss and maintenance.

Kat James Bio

What’s leptin you say?  Isn’t that the plant toxin Dr. Gundry talks about?  No…that’s LeCtin! As a true, practical pioneer on the subject… award-winning author Kat James has been identified by the top CLINICAL expert on leptin as the only PRACTICAL expert with decades of literally living along. LePtin is the MASTER PEPTIDE HORMONE they swept under the rug way back in the ‘90s because BIG PHARMA couldn’t monetize it… in fact they could lose BILLIONS if people understood what unwittingly saved the life of my guest, four years before science identified it in 1994.

Her Story

  • She developed an eating disorder when she was younger
  • She went on weight reducing diet. She had a massive binging disorder
  • She moved to New York City as a make-up artist
  • She learned that her reward system was broken
    • She was not digested and had high liver enzymes
    • Her MD wanted to do a liver biopsy and put her on interferon
    • She also was depressed had Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune disease
    • At age 24, she thought she was going to die
  • In a health food store, she took some herbs  which returned her liver enzymes to normal
  • She continued binging until through experimenting she came to a state where binging disappeared.  She lost ten dress sizes over ten years.  Her health problems reversed
  • People no longer recognized her.
  • This resulted in her feeling totally free and maintaining the was effortless.  She did not learn what worked until fourteen years later.
  • At a party, she met Jeffrey Friedman who did a study on injecting leptin into obese rodents that became thin as a result
  • Injecting leptin into humans did not work because they became resistant to leptin
  • She wrote a book about the fat free diet, but the publishers would not let her discuss leptin
  • Publishers wanted herbook to focus on beauty so she chose a snaller publishing company so she could discuss her story
  • When Simon  andShuster bought the smaller publishing company, they chose to re release her book
  • She has learned by trial and error how to keep leptin stable without spikes
  • her energy evened out, no autoimmune,

Mechanics of weight loss

  • When people lose weight, they lose muscles. It does not matter what weight reduction technique is used (GLP1 agonists, caloric restriction, gastric bypass.  The fat usually returns, the muscle does not return.
  • Typically, when people lose weight, they then binge, feel shame, starve them selves, binge and the pattern repeats
  • Mascle is needed to maintain our health. With the loss of muscle, our metabolism lowers making it more difficult to lose weight

Leptin

  • Leptin is the body’s master hormone, is a peptide, It
  • the body’s own GLP 1 regulator.
  • It is made by white fat cells and helps with autoimmunity,
  • Restores the satiety signal
  • Improves appetite
  • eliminates food sensitivities
  • Helps activate stem cells,
  • Regulates immune system
  • Improves deep wave sleep
  • Eliminates autoimmune issues
  • repairs tissues,
  • is neuroprotective,
  • orchestrateshormones, testosterone is freed up
  • increases the muscle to fate ratio
  • turns white fat into brown fat
  • autonomic nervous system regulator decreases time in “fight or flight”mode
  • decreasesbone loss  because are no longer using sugar at nightto burn fat
  • No more afternoon energy dips
    • ,
    • She told an expert that leptin does not work unless fat is eaten
    • Prevent leptin resistance by keeping leptin levels low
  • Peptides are the next big area in medicine
  • For regaining bone loss need fat soluble nutrients
  • Muscle to bone ration will chang eif have enough free testosterone

Some steps

  • Getting the orchestratorto  turn back on healthy eating, healthy sleep and dealing with stress Healthy diet, good sleep deal with stress
  • We all have individual thresholds at which we lose the blood sugar, insulin and leptin spikes
    • This occurs when we elevate leptin n=more than we elevate insulin
    • This was easier before 1950 even before 1975 when most people had sensitivity and function of the hormone leptin
    • They had more brown fat making this autopilot state easy
    • What undid tis was high fructose corn syrup, fat phobia, cholesterol phobia
      • High fructose corn syup and fat phobia caused the obesity epidemic
      • We need cholesterol for our sex hormones, tissue repair
      • Some say high cholesterol is not an issue if the calcium score is zero It is when the body’s detox systems aren’t working, and remaining toxins get in the way of transporting cholesterol which attaches resulting in oxidized cholesterol which and forms plaque on vessels
        • O
        •
        • This form of fat soluble vitamins works in humans
        • Oxidized cholesterol increases with carbs, sugars, and high omega six levels. This correlates with triglycerides
      • We need dietary fat,
        • but the source needs to be organic as fat stores all the toxins
        • We don’t’ want to eat meat that was fed antibiotics, insecticides and hormones
        • Kat says that the people who ate the most saturated fat live the longest

Her approach

  • She focuses on dietary education and makes no claims to heal any condition
  • Doctors should be involved if the patient is focused on curing a disease
  • Get circulating leptin low enough so the leptin receptors turn back on
    • Need to lower leptin for approximately 72 hours
      • This takes longer than it did in the 1950s
    • The threshold for foods to spike our leptin is much lower than it had been in the past because in the past , we were metabolically intact
      • Proteins turn to sugar, fruits natural sugars such as honey turn to sugar
      • Carnivore diets do not affect leptin, but it improves many health biomarkers
        • They help with autophagy (where we are eating up our own dead protein), mTORR suppression so we go into cell remodelling rather than cell replication
          • Leptin sensitivity does all of this with no moments f hunger or rebound eating,
    • No fasting, she states
      • An alcohol tincture, or carrot power in a supplement raise leptin
  • This changes taste buds, sense of smell and you won’t want the unhealthy foods you liked in the past
  • You have to get the brain to perceive that it is not in famine mode
  • Each individual may have a different threshold for leptin sensitivity
    • She recommends
      • Eat clean organic animal saturated fat
        • This is the way to get the best brain and lipid biolayer Brain repair does not occur with virgin olive oil , coconut oil alone

Preparation for her program is important

  • Need to start gradually
  • If not done properly will have a large die off of yeast and pathogens
  • Any people do not produce fat digesting enzymes
  • Have to stop coffee as it releases stress hormones causing glycogen (sugar) to be released from the liver
    • coffee takes one out of leptin sensitivity
  • one mistake every three days is enough to keep someone out of leptin sensitivity
  • minor things can spike leptin, but these won’t be missed whenin leptin sensitivity
  • Timing and order one eats foods matter
  • It is not about calories in or calories out; it is about your hormonal response to food
  • Fat and fiber have no hormonal response
  • Using a continuous blood glucose monitor will help with awareness of which foods spike blood sugars

Her program has helped with many health conditions

  • She makes no medical claims but sites these as coincidences
  • Oncologists came to her for advice
  • Autoimmune diseases, multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Diabetes, end stage renal disease in a 94 year old
  • Pain, seizures
  • Regulates tissue repair, activates stem cells
  • Atrial fabulation
