Aired on: January 24, 2020

Episode Description
Learn about healthy aging. Health depends on many interdependent factors including inflammation, mitochondria and oxidative stress.Dr. Friedlander discusses many health hacks including: – collagen which is the only non inflammatory food. Collagen also double stem cell production. -A small dose of methyl Blue increases complex 4 and helps with the cytochrome oxidase enzyme increasing mitochondrial function. -recommendations for bone health

What is Aging?
• How we age and quality of life that are most important
• It is a wear and tear on our body
• What influences aging
o parents’ longevity
o Thoughts, epigenetics, positive outlook, our diet, how we take care of ourselves
o Lifestyle
 Exercising or sedentary
o Genetics
 We can control our genes
• How they function, are expressed, repairing mechanism
 Genes are expressed
• by our life style
o Diet contributes to our levels of inflammation
• Our attitude
• Getting out in sunshine and clean air
• The right amount of exercise
• Quality of sleep
• Hormones, minerals, vitamins
• What we drink
• Avoiding EMF, chemicals, heavy metals and petroleum
• Minimize stress

 It takes 65,000 years for a gene to adapt to a new environmental event
• For example to adapt to EMF or glyphosate
• The body will make new genes depending on what we are involved in.

What accelerates Aging
• Stressors
• Inflammation
• High levels of serotonin and estrogen accelerate aging, disease, cancer, anxiety and every known factor in the brain that causes dementia
o Due to leaky gut syndrome and the escape of serotonin
o Platelets release serotonin under estrogen
o Too much estrogen releases serotonin into the brain causing cognitive decline and anxiety
• Poor sleep
• Hormones
o We want to increase progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, at night
o Want to increase thyroid function

Positive Attitudes
• What and how we think
• Being positive
• Life style with which we are happy
• Nurturing ourselves
• Doing things we enjoy
• Light (red light in am)
• Look in mirror and say “I love myself”
o The mirror gives you feedback
o For example, set a goal that everyone will be positive and will give them that positivity/ love/ nurturing or hugs
o We don’t give enough
o hugs –
 positive exchange of hormones (oxytocin)that helps healing
 nurtures the cells
• If something negative happens , think about the positive that comes out of it
• He trained athletes to feel what it feels like to win a gold metal
o Feel what it is like to win and what develops afterwards
• Other examples
o Gratitude
o Set little goals that we can achieve
o Giving with good intent

Diet
• Proper protein, fats, and nutrients
• Avoid certain amino acids as we age
o After age 25, our bodies stop growing
o After 25 we don’t need the mTORR pathways, IGF pathways
 These pathways lead to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc.
o Eliminate tryptophan, methionine, cysteine promotes longevity by 15-30 %
 In a lot of meat, protein, poly unsaturated fat
• These lead to oxidative stress, thyroid damage hormone damage, artery damage
 Caloric restriction diets are low in these
• H recommends pasteurized eggs, fish, shrimp, lamb, grass fed beef
o Fish
 White fish better than oily fish

• Cooked cruciferous vegetables
o Need to be cooked so can break down cellulose
 Cellulose allows us to digest food and make more nutrients available
o Drink the water vegetables were cooked in
o Don’t eat uncooked kale
 Has oxalic acid, phosphorous acid which cause bone loss and thyroid problems
 Allows more nutrients to be available
• Cut down on salads because salads in the gut ferment
o Fermentation causes bloating, distention and eventually endotoxins and then leaky gut

Meats
 At a certain age we don’t need as much protein
 After age 69, we need to increase protein
 He does not recommend chicken because of the way the feed the chickens
o They feed chickens soy and corn which fattens the animals up
 They feed the chickens grains because it increases the fat which taste better
 This (corn soy and other grains) suppress the thyroid
 They destroy minerals because they remove phytanic acid
 White meat has more of the bad amino acids
 Eating the leg, wing, dark meat is a better option
 Grass fed beef. Eat once per week
o Lower tryptophan, methionine, cysteine
o Grains, corn fed animals raise estrogen levels in our bodies
 Estrogen causes cancer in the brain, breast and ovaries
 When deprived of protein, can have thyroid problems so check thyroid functioning

Don’t want so much EPA or DHA because too much suppresses the immune system
• These are good anti-inflammatory but suppress the immune system, natural killer cells, macrophages which are important in communicating and getting rid of bacteria and viruses, and cancer
• Eat food rather than pills because protein, albumin, protects the oxidation of the oils in the body
• Any long chain fatty acids are conductive to oxidation damage
o Long chain fatty acids are found in fish, omega threes
o Mono or saturated fats are more protective
 These don’t have inflammatory mechanisms or oxidation factors
 Ghee, butter, olive oil, MCT occasionally

Whole Milk
• Unless very active whole milk is great
• Chocolate milk is great for body builders
• As get older 2 % milk
o Need calcium, vitamin D, vitamin A
• Stimulates thyroid
• If lactose sensitive, can get lactose free milk
o Or try goat or sheep milk
 Have A2 component
o Usually don’t have problems with A2 milk

Collagen
• He started working with knox gelatin joint formula in the early 80’s
o Contributes to bone, cartilage, tissues, tendons, ligaments, skin and hair regeneration
o He used Knox gelatin with calcium and vitamins C and D with Olympic teams, the Raiders, the Rams, and the Lakers
 He recommended 15- 20 g collagen with vitamin c three times per day
 This resulted in dramatic improvement in recovery and athletic performance
o He was one of the first to come out with collagen
• Collagen is devoid of tryptophan, cysteine and methionine and has good amino acids
• Collagen is the only food that blocks and inhibits the mTORR pathway which allows cancer cells to grow
• Collagen is the only non- inflammatory food
• Collagen doubles stem cell production when used with infra-red sauna
o When add vitamin K, calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium even better
• Collagen is the only peptide made out of proteolytic enzymes
• Has taurine for the brain and liver, energy, cognitive abilities
• In it are
o Branch chain amino acids
o Glutamine
o Carnitine for energy
• Collagen suppresses the inflammatory effects of tryptophan, cysteine and methionine
• Helps with gut lining, healing gut, lining of the arteries

Vitamin K2
 Helps bring calcium into the bond
 Calcium deficiency is common

Poor sleep
• Missing thyroid function
• Might be lacking DHEA, progesterone, testosterone
o These are protective hormones allowing deeper and longer sleep
o Need to allow brain to relax and go into delta wave length
• Avoid EMF at night
o Turn computer and other things off in bedroom off
o Consider turning off circuit breaker
o Don’t use computers within 4 hours of sleep wearing red glasses
o At night want to reduce
 cortisol,
• has reverse relationship with melatonin
• is inflammatory
• leads to insulin resistance
 serotonin,
 inflammatory markers that contribute to insomnia and sleep apnea or getting a full night’s rest
 do this with proper nutrients and turning off EMF at night

Mitochondria
• Secret to Longevity: Key to prevent aging
• Increase NAD
• Foods that contribute
o Vegetables
 Broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussel sprouts MUST BE COOKED

Hormones
• Testosterone
o Need to determine how much the body makes
o Don’t take too much because it will convert to estrogen via the aromatase pathway
• DHEA
o Precursor to all hormones
o 5- 10 mg per day
• Progesterone
o We don’t make enough progesterone because of the excess of estrogen from
 Food
 Lack of natural lighting
 EMF causes higher amounts of estrogen and serotonin to be released
o take a protective cream
o can take kennergen made with vitamin E
• Pregnenolone
o Is one of most protective hormone
o 100 mg per day or more
• Estrogen
o Too much estrogen causes cancer in the brain, breast and ovaries’
o Too much estrogen suppresses these protective hormones
o Excess estrogen can come from
 Grains,
 Grain and corn fed animals raise estrogen levels in our bodies
o Excess testosterone can convert to estrogen
o High levels of serotonin and estrogen accelerate aging, disease, cancer, anxiety and every known factor in the brain that causes dementia
 Due to leaky gut syndrome and the escape of serotonin
 Platelets release serotonin under estrogen
 Too much estrogen releases serotonin into the brain causing cognitive decline and anxiety

His breakfast
• Over easy pasteurized egg
• 30 grams collagen
• Vitamin C, calcium, vitamins D and K, vitamin B complex

What women can use in lieu of makeup stuff
• Vitamin E, olive oil, MCT, crystalline vitamin C in water and spray it

For Bones
 Vitamin K2, calcium, vitamin D

Methylene Blue
• Helps increase respiratory chain in the krebs cycle , the mitochondria
• Cytochrome oxidase
o Enzyme crucial to mitochondria
o Without it we cannot survive
o Cancer cells don’t have this enzyme and live on free fatty acids
• Raises complex four of the mitochondria
o Aligned with electron flow of mitochondria
• Using methylene blue with infra-red light can alter cancer cells
o Changes cancer cells from producing lactic acid to producing CO2
o Lactic acid is the contributing factor from all inflammatory mechanism
 It is a componenet of everything that can go wrong in our bodies
o Is end result of everything that causes cancer cells to survive
• With it he notices his cognition improving
• Could reverse some of declining cognitive function and brain
• Children’s Hospital in Oakland is showing that it helps break down beta amyloid in Alzheimer’s patients

Baking Soda
• a very inexpensive health boost
• Helps buffer the cells and keep the pH at the right level
• It removes lactic acid from the cells
o In gut lactic acid increases histamine which leads to multiple food allergies
• Nitric oxide in the gut contributes to further inflammation leading to leaky gut
• ½ t of baking soda once or twice a day helps increase CO2 component
• Carbonated water such as pelligrino helps
o Helps with gut issues and digestion
o Has minerals
o Helps rid of serotonin and estrogen resulting in improved digestion and fewer ulcers

Apple cider vinegar
• Not as good as baking soda for CO2
• Added vinegar helps with digestion of food and reduces release of nitric oxide fro carbs

Hydrogen peroxide
• Used topically to get rid of abnormal cells
• Good for rinsing the mouth
• Good for diarrhea
o One tablespoon twice a day
o Gets rid of parasites, bacteria, fungus

His approach to cancer
• We have to reduce the inflammatory and stressors that contribute to high estrogen, high serotonin, high nitric oxide and high histamine
o We do this through dietary methods
 That is through reducing tryptophan, cysteine and methionine
 Eating more collagen, vitamin C
• We have to decrease mTORR pathways
o Collagen is the only food that blocks and inhibits the mTORR pathway which allows cancer cells to grow
• Basically have too much estrogen in the body and release too much serotonin
o Estrogen and serotonin change the molecular structure of the mitochondria, how it functions and how it utilizes food.
 It does not break down glucose properly
 It breaks down protein into fat free fatty acids.
• Suppresses mitochondrial respiratory chain
• Normal function per Otto Warburg says it is not a lack of oxygen but is how oxygen is used to make energy
o Glucose is fuel and is oxidized to make energy, CO2 and water.
o Stressors disrupt this
 Eats all the wrong foods
• Too much poly unsaturated oils
• Eating too many phosphoric acid / phosphorous foods
• Not enough calcium, vitamin d and K2.
 being in front of computers
 not sleeping right
 thyroid not working well.
• Cancer cells are normal cells but have an ability to increase telomere length, can repair and regenerate faster than normal cells
o These cells don’t have a DNA function, they just grow
• When we increase free fatty acids in the production of energy, the mitochondria break down to producing lactic acid
• This lactic acid and carbon monoxide are key factors that contribute to abnormal cells
o They lost DNA function, have no function
• So his approach towards cancer
o Bring back glucose oxidation to the cell by reversing lactic acid and increasing CO2
 Changing the environment of the cell
 Use red light
 Be in the sun more
 Eat cooked vegetables.
 Eating the right proteins like fish, eggs, collagen
 Increase biotin (vitamin B 1) in diet
o Reduce estrogen, increase progesterone
o Increase DHEA and testosterone at the proper levels
 Control the mitochondria and mitochondrial function
o Decrease fatty acids
 Want to use zinc and aspirin
 Aspirin is one of best way to reduce fatty acids
 Take aspirin with baking soda is even better

Some summary points
 Have to cook veggies
o Raw vegetables have adverse effects and ferment the gut

 Don’t want so much EPA or DHA because too much suppresses the immune system
o These are good anti-inflammatory but suppress the immune system, natural killer cells, macrophages which are important in communicating and getting rid of bacteria and viruses, cancer

• Collagen doubles stem cell production when used with infra-red sauna
When add vitamin K, calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium even better
Collagen important
• Avoid corn and soy as they disrupt hormones
• Keep estrogen levels low as it is carcinogenic
• Excess testosterone can convert to excess estrogen
• Avoid the amino acids tryptophan, cysteine, methionine
• Eat organic meats, healthy oils
• Vitamin K2, vitamin D, calcium, vitamin C healthy for our bones
• Methyl blue, baking soda are helpful
• Apple cider helpful but less helpful
• Hydrogen peroxide good for surface lesions
• Have a positive attitude
• Do the right exercises
• His approach to cancer
